Born and raised in Kansas, my Dad brought me to Montana for summer fishing vacations all my life. After graduating from college at Kansas State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology in May of 1998, I arrived five days later in Emigrant, Montana in the Yellowstone Valley to become a fishing guide. At the end of that first Montana summer, I shifted from the Yellowstone to the Big Hole valley and began guiding for one of the nation’s top fishing lodges, The Complete Fly Fisher. Living on the banks of the Big Hole in Wise River, Montana, I guided the next five years under outfitter and FFF master caster, David Decker, and many other veteran guides to learn the art of casting and teaching fly fishing.
In 2004 I became a licensed Montana Outfitter, moved to the upper Bitterroot Valley with my wife, Jessica, and began outfitting guided float trips. Since then I’ve developed my guiding skills and knowledge of surrounding waters, as well as investing years building strengths and friendships with my team of guides. After ten years in Sula, Montana, my family and I made our final move to Hamilton in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley, and have now fittingly named our business Bitterroot River Guides.
My guide staff is dedicated, courteous, patient and professional: a tight knit team. Masters of both a fly rod and raft, we safely navigate the rivers of Montana throughout the season. From big water in the spring until the trickles of fall, we search out wild trout on the fly. Instruction is paramount on our trips, and we believe in teaching fly fishing as a whole: casting, mending, wading, reading water, recognizing insect hatches, leader construction, and many other facets making up the art of fly fishing. Thanks for fishing with us, and I hope we meet on a trout stream someday.
